A more informed next step

Make the decision with more context.

A listing, a test drive and a seller’s description can leave important questions unanswered. The proposed inspection service is designed to help you understand the vehicle’s observed condition, discuss findings and decide what to investigate before committing.

01 · REQUEST

Tell us about the vehicle.

Share the year, make, model, mileage, listing and your main concerns. Let us know your purchase deadline and whether the seller can bring the vehicle to Shoreline.

02 · CONFIRM

Agree on the details first.

CarTech must confirm vehicle fit, inspection scope, price, expected duration, availability and the findings format before any appointment is arranged.

03 · REVIEW

Use findings to guide your choice.

Discuss the observations, their limitations and any recommended follow-up. You decide whether to proceed, ask the seller more questions or continue your search.

History & current condition

Checked the CARFAX? Now check the car.

A CARFAX report is a useful starting point. It can show reported accidents, ownership and service or repair records, but it isn’t a complete record of every vehicle or a current mechanical assessment. Pair the history with a pre-purchase inspection to better understand the car in front of you before you commit.

Low mileage? Ask how it was stored.

Depending on storage conditions and care, a parked car’s battery may need attention, tires can develop flat spots, and moisture can contribute to brake corrosion. Ask how long it sat and how it was maintained. An inspection helps identify observable concerns within the agreed scope.

Coverage doesn’t replace a closer look.

A warranty or service contract can be useful, but coverage depends on its written terms. Ask about existing faults, wear items, maintenance requirements, deductibles and claim approval. Even a car sold with coverage deserves an independent look. An inspection is a snapshot, not a guarantee that every fault will be found or future repairs will be covered.

Make your offer with the facts.

Ask the seller what is known to need repair, then compare that information with an independent inspection. Documented findings can support a request for repairs, a price discussion or a decision to walk away. A price reduction could exceed the inspection fee, but savings depend on the findings and the seller. You get better information before committing, whether or not the price changes.

Prepare your request

Bring the questions that matter to you.

  • What is the year, make, model, mileage and VIN, if available?
  • Do you have a listing, service records or known concerns?
  • Are there warning lights, unusual noises or recent repairs?
  • Can the seller authorize an inspection and arrange access?
  • What is your decision deadline?

Buyer questions

Know what to expect before requesting.

The service details below must be confirmed for your vehicle. A request is the start of that conversation.

What does the inspection include?

The exact checklist and assessment scope are still being confirmed. CarTech must explain the agreed checks and any exclusions before the appointment.

What does it cost, and how long does it take?

Price, duration and capacity are not yet confirmed. Ask for those details before arranging vehicle access; no price or time slot is promised here.

Will I receive a report?

The findings format and report contents must be confirmed before booking. The intended goal is clear observations and buyer decision support.

Can an inspection guarantee the car is problem-free?

No. An inspection reflects accessible conditions at the time of assessment. Hidden, intermittent or future faults may not be detected. It is not a warranty, valuation or guarantee of future reliability.

Does a CARFAX report include maintenance history?

It can include service and repair information reported to CARFAX. Missing entries do not prove maintenance was skipped. Ask for invoices and other records, and pair the history with an inspection and an agreed, safe test drive.

Do I still need an inspection if the car has a warranty?

The FTC recommends an independent mechanical inspection even for a certified used car or one sold with a warranty or service contract. Read the actual coverage and exclusions. An inspection adds information about present condition; it does not guarantee future reliability or claim approval.

Does a request reserve an appointment?

No. A request does not reserve capacity or authorize work. CarTech must confirm the details and both parties must agree before an appointment is arranged.
